The aluminium strips in an electroscope as shown in fig. are replaced by plastic strips and a charged body is brought in contact with the metal clip. What will happen?

  1. Here the aluminium strips in an electroscope are replaced by plastic strips.
  2. We know that plastic strips are insulators, so they cannot carry any charge.
  3. So there will be no divergence among the strips. when they come in contact with the charged body.
  4. As a result, we cannot test whether the object carries a charge or not.

Note: Electric charge can be transferred from one charged object to another only through a metal conductor.

Hence, we cannot predict whether the object is charged or not.
