The area of a square and a rectangle are equal. If the side of the square is 40 cm and the breadth of the rectangle is 25 cm, find the length of the rectangle. Also, find the perimeter of the rectangle.

Area of square = (side)2
= 40 cm × 40 cm = 1600 cm2
[1 mark]

It is given that,
Area of the rectangle = Area of the square
Area of the rectangle = 1600 cm2
and breadth of the rectangle = 25 cm.

Area of the rectangle = length × breadth
1600 = length × 25
So, length = 160025 = 64 cm
[1 mark]

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 (length + breadth) = 2 (64 + 25) cm = 2 × 89 cm = 178 cm
