Number of horizontal tiles in each row of the figure = 4
Number of vertical tiles in each column of the figure = 4

So,
Total number of tiles = Number of tiles on each row × Number of tiles in each column
⇒ Total number of tiles = 4 × 4 = 16

∴ Area of the figure will be:
= Area of each tile × Total Number of tiles
