Question

the atomic number of Al is 13 and that of Cl is 17.how many electrons, protons, neutrons, are present in Al3+ and Cl- ions.

Open in App
Solution

Al3+ ion is formed when Al loses 3 electrons.

Atomic number of Al is 13.
In Al3+, number of protons = atomic number = 13
number of electrons =atomic number - 3 = 13-3 =10
number of neutrons = mass number - atomic number = 27 -13 = 14

Cl- are formed when Cl gains one electron

number of protons = 17
number of electrons = 17 + 1 = 18
number of neutrons = 35-17 = 18
