Yes, the Battle of Plassey opened doors for British supremacy in India. During the British arrival in India, Bengal was ruled by powerful Nawabs. They misused the trading facilities given to them, and as a result, Nawab Siraj-ud-daulah challenged them.
The Nawab's officials, Mir Jafar, and Khadim Khan joined the British side under the leadership of Bengal Governor Robert Clive. On 23 June 1757, Nawab and British troops clashed on the battlefield of Plassey. Most of the Nawab's force, which was on the British side, decided not to participate in the conflict, forcing the Nawab to flee. The ensuing events led to the capture and execution of the previous Nawab, and Mir Jafar was appointed as the new Nawab of Bengal.
