Let the cost of an article be ₹1.

$\therefore$ cost of 16 articles = ₹16

Given that cost of 16 articles = S.P of 12 articles

$\Rightarrow$ S.P of 12 articles = ₹16 and
cost of 12 articles = ₹12

$\therefore$ Gain on 12 articles = ₹16 - ₹12 = ₹4

$\Rightarrow$ Gain on 1 article = $\frac{₹4}{12}=₹\frac{1}{3}$
$=\frac{1}{3}\times 100=33\frac{1}{3}\%$
