The capacities of two bottles are in the ratio 5: 3. If the smaller bottle is emptied thrice and the larger bottle once into a vessel; and in another vessel, only the larger bottle is emptied twice then find the ratio of the liquids in both the vessels.
7: 5
Given: The ratio of capacities of two bottles = 5: 3.
∴ Let the capacity of bottles be 5x and 3x.
In vessel 1 the quantity of liquid present = 3×3x + 1×5x
= 9x + 5x
= 14x
In vessel 2 the quantity of liquid present = 2×5x
= 10x
∴ Ratio of liquids present in both vessels = 14x: 10x
= 14: 10
= 7: 5
