The central hall of a school is 18m long and 12.5m wide. A carpet is to be laid on the floor leaving a strip 50cm wide near the walls, uncovered. Find the area of the carpet and also the uncovered portion?

Area of Central hall = 18×12.5=225 m2
Area of covered portion = (180.5)(12.50.5) = 210 m2
Area of uncovered portion = Area of central hall Area of covered portion = 225210 = 15 m2
