Question

The cheetah is the fastest land animal and can achieve a peak velocity of 100 km/h up to the distances less than 500 m. If a cheetah spots his prey at a distance of 100 m, what is the minimum time it will take to get its prey, if the average velocity attained by it is 90 km/h?

Solution

Step 1:Given data:

Average velocity of cheetah = 90 km/h

Distance of prey = 100 m

Average velocity of cheetah = 90 km/h = 90×518=25 m/s.

Step 2:Finding the time:

Time=Distancespeed=10025=4seconds.

Hence, the cheetah will catch his prey in 4 seconds.
