Question

The circuit shown in the figure consists of a charged capacitor of capacity 3 μF and a charge of 30 μC. At time t=0 when the key is closed, the value of current flowing through the 5 MΩ resistor is x μA . The value of x to the nearest integer is .

Solution

After closing the switch, capacitor will start discharging.

We know charge on capacitor is given as, Q=Q0et/RC

Given, Q0=30×106C, C=3×106F and R=5×106 Ω

Current, I=dQdt=Q0RCet/RC

at t=0,I=Q0RCe0/RC

I=Q0RC=30×1065×106×3×106=2×106 A

I=2 μA
