Mandibles are suspended from the sides of the head capsule, one on either side of the mouth. Each mandible having teeth-like cutting plates at its inner edge. The mandibles are jaws used for crushing and cutting the food.
The mandibles are movable by the contraction and relaxation of adductor and abductor set of muscles. The mandibles belong to fourth segment of the head.
