The curved surface area of a cylinder is 176cm2 and its base area is 38.5cm2. Find the volume of the cylinder and justify your answer.

Let the base radius be r and the height of the cylinder be h.

Given, Base area of the cylinder=38.5cm2
π×r2=38.5
227×r2=38.5
r2=38.5×722
r=12.25
r=3.5 cm
Curved surface area of a cylinder =176 cm2
2πrh=176
2×227×3.5×h=176
h=176×72×22×3.5
h=8 cm

So, the volume of the cylinder is =πr2h
=227×(3.5)2×8
=308 cm3.
