The damage to oxyntic cells of gastric glands will result in pernicious anemia because oxyntic cells secretes intrinsic factors that are essential for absorption of vitamin B₁₂.

If any kind of damage happens to these cells than vitamin B₁₂ will not be absorbed by the body, which will cause deficiency of B12 and will lead to pernicious anemia.
