Question

The density of a substance can be calculated using the formula:-

DENSITY= MASS/VOLUME

Mary's teacher told her that the mass of the 25 ml of water is 25g and the mass of 25 ml of ethanol is 19.75g .

What is the correct value for the density of the mixture in g/ml?

Select from the following options with explanation:-

A) 0.79
B) 0.89
C) 0.93
D) 1.79

Given that,
for water,
V = 25ml
M=25g
Density d1(for water)= 1

For ethanol
Volume =25 ml
Mass =19.75 mg

Now in the question we are mixing both the fluids

So the total weight of the
fluid is (25+19.75)=44.75mg

And the volume of the fluid is (25+25)=50ml

Density = 44.75/50= .895
So answer is b) .89
