One of the devastating plant diseases is the potato late blight. It was in Europe in the 1840s that this epidemic destroyed potato crops causing the famous famine. This seed born disease is caused by Phytophthora infestans and involved the formation of brownish to blackish dead areas on the tip and margin of the leaflet leading to blighting of the whole leaf. So the tuber formation is reduced.
