Solution

The correct option is A 4.48 ev
Solution:- (A) 4.48eV
Given:-
From the principle of conservation of energy, the energy of an incident photon (E) is equal to the sum of the work function (W0) of radiation and its kinetic energy (K.E.) i.e.,
E=W0+K.E.
W0=EK.E.
As we know that,
E=hcλ
Here,
h= Planck's constant =6.62×1034Js
c= Speed of light =3×108m/s
λ= Wavelength =256.7nm=2.56×107m
E=6.62×1034×3×1082.56×107=7.74×1019J=4.83eV
Since the potential applied gives the kinetic energy to the radiation, therefore,
K.E of the electron =0.35eV
Therefore,
W0=4.830.35=4.48eV
Hence the work function is 4.48eV.
