Question

The gas phase reaction:
2A(g)A2(g)
at 400K has ΔGº=+25.2kJmol-1
The equilibrium constant Kc for this reaction is ______ ×10-2. (Round off to the Nearest Integer)

[Use R=8.3Jmol-1K-1,ln10=2.3,log102=0.30,1atm=1bar]
[antilog(-0.3)=0.501]

Solution

Using the formula,

DG°=-RTlnKP25200=-2.3×8.3×400logKPKP=10-3.3=10-3×0.501=5.01×10-4Bar-1=5.01×10-5×10-4Pa-1=Kc8.3×400

Finding the value of Kc,

KC=1.66×10-5m3/mole=1.66×10-2L/mol=2

The equilibrium constant Kc for this reaction is 2×10-2.
