Types of sex-linked inheritance

There are two types of sex-linked inheritance - X-linked and Y-linked inheritance.

X-linked inheritance

  1. It is linked with inheritance of recessive genes which are present only on X-chromosome and no corresponding allele is present on Y-chromosome.
  2. Examples of X-linked inheritance are haemophilia and color blindness.

Haemophilia

  1. It is transmitted by carrier female to some of the male offsprings.
  2. The patient here suffers uncontrollable bleeding even on minor injury due to defective blood coagulation mechanism.
  3. Such type of disease is seen in the family pedigree of Queen Victoria.
