The figure given below is made of squares. The area of each square in the figure is 4 cm2. Find the perimeter of the whole figure.

Given,
Area of each square = 4 cm2

We know that,
Area of square = side × side
side × side = 4 cm2
side = 2 cm

i.e, Length of each side of the square = 2 cm

Now, looking at the figure we can say that it is a rectangle.
Length of the rectangle
= 5 x Length of one side of square
= 5 × 2
= 10 cm
Breadth of the rectangle
= 2 x Breadth of one side of square
= 2 × 2
= 4 cm

Perimeter of the rectangle
= 2 × (Length + Breadth)
= 2 × (10 + 4)
= 2 x 14
= 28 cm
