The focal length of objective and eye piece lens of a microscope are 1.6 cm & 2.5 cm respectively. Distance between two lenses is 21.7 cm .If the final image is formed at infinity what is the linear magnification?
Given,
Separation between lense,L=21.7cm,
Focal length of eye piece, L=21.7cm,fe=2.5cm
Focal length of objective lens,f0=1.6cm,v0=19.2cm,u0=?
L=v0+fe
Where L is the length of the microscope and fe e the focal length of the objective
Substituting we get:
21.7=v0+2.5
⇒v0=21.7−2.5=19.2cm
According to lens formula we know that:
1f0=1v0−1u0
v0=19.2cm,u0=?
11.6=119.2−1u0
−1u0=11.6−119.2
−1u0=1016−10192
−1u0=120−10192=110192
u0=−192110cm=−1.75cm
Magnification, m=−vu=−19.21.75=10.97=11
Hence, linear magnification is 11
