Question

The frequency of an electromagnetic radiation is 2?10^15 Hz. What is the energy of photon in eV

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The amount of energy in photons is calculated by this equation, E = hf, where E is the energy of the photon in Joules; h is Planck's constant, which is always 6.63 * 10-34 Joule seconds; and f is the frequency of the light in hertz.
Given f = 2x1015 Hz
E = 2x1015 x 6.63 * 10-34
= 13.26 x 10-19 J
Convert to electronvolt eV divide by 1.602176634×1019 we get
13.26 / 1.6 = 8.2875 eV

Answer: The energy of photon will be 8.2875 eV
