This is a classic experiment to demonstrate that oxygen is produced during photosynthesis. The hydrilla plant, being green in colour, carries out photosynthesis and oxygen is produced as a byproduct. Initially, the inverted test tube will be completely filled with water. Later, gas produced can be seen as bubbles in the test tube.
