Given, AD = 13 cm, DC = 12 cm, BC = 3 cm and ABD=BCD=90.

In the right-angled triangle ΔBCD,

BD2=BC2+CD2 [By Pythagoras theorem]

BD2=32+122

BD2=9+144

BD2=153 cm

Now, In the right-angled triangle ΔABD,

AD2=AB2+BD2 [By Pythagoras theorem]

132=AB2+153 [Since BD2=153]

AB2=169153

AB2=16

AB=16=4 cm
