Question

The graph shows the volume V (in cubic feet) of a cube with an edge length of x feet. Does graph represent a linear or nonlinear function?

Solution

We know, a linear function is a function whose graph is a straight line.

Also, if rate of change of function is constant then function is linear.

As x increases by 1, y increases randomly. The rate of change is not constant.

And the graph is not straight line, So function is nonlinear.

Hence, the graph represents a nonlinear function.
