Question

The growth of ampicillin resistant bacterial population (strain 1) infected by a virus declines as the virus enters lytic cycle. Then the virus undergoes lysogenic cycle and further remove themselves from bacterial genome during heat shock treatment to proteins. All the bacteria die after some time and only free virus now grow. A second bacterial ampicillin sensitive population (strain 2) is the one infected by this virus. Similarly the bacterial population decreases and ampicillin population rebounds.

Solution

The correct option is B I and II only
Conjugation is the transfer of genetic material between two bacterial strains via conjugation tube.
Transformation is the transfer of genetic material from one bacterial strain to other without establishing a physical contact.
Crossing over is the exchange of genetic material between homologous chromosomes that results in recombinant chromosomes during sexual reproduction.
Conjugation and transformation are two modes of reproduction in bacteria that increase their genetic diversity by transfer of genetic material between two strains.
Therefore, the correct answer is option B.
