Naming of (CH3)3CCH2CH(Br)C6H5:

  • Since there are 4 carbons in the carbon chain so the compound will have the root word “but”.
  • since there is one bromine atom attached to the first carbon atom, so prefix 1- Bromo will be used
  • Since there are two methyl groups present on the third carbon of the carbon chain, so prefix 3,3- dimethyl will be used.
  • Since the phenyl group is attached to the first carbon atom 1-phenyl prefix is used.
  • Now, we will arrange these all subgroups according to their alphabetic order

So the IUPAC name of (CH3)3CCH2CH(Br)C6H5 is 1-Bromo-3,3-dimethyl-1-phenylbutane.
