Solution

The correct options are
A 1-chloro-4-methylbenzene
C 4-chlorotoluene
The IUPAC names of the following compound are (A) 1-chloro-4-methylbenzene and (C) 4-chlorotoluene.

In IUPAC system the name toluene (as a derivative of benzene) is acceptable. Toluene has a chlorine substituent on fourth carbon atom of the aromatic ring.

The names 1-methyl-4-chlorobenzene and 4-methylchlorobenzene are incorrect as the ligands are not named in alphabetical order.

The name 1-methyl-4-chlorobenzene is incorrect because methyl substituent has got lowest locant whereas Cl atom should get priority over methyl substituent.

Hence, the correct options are A and C.
