Protoplasm
Protoplast
The living part of the cell which consists of the nucleus, the cytoplasm and other living bodies is called protoplast or protoplasm. These are the cells which have had their cell wall removed, usually by digestion with enzymes. Cellulase enzymes digest the cellulose in plant cell walls while pectinase enzymes break down the pectin holding cells together. The cytoplasm is the gel-like material within a living cell, excluding the nucleus. The fluid inside the nucleus is called nucleoplasm.
