Question

The longitudinal waves travel in a coiled spring at a rate of 4 m/s. The distance between two consecutive compressions is 20 cm. Find :

(i) Wavelength of the wave

(ii) Frequency of the wave

Open in App
Solution

Given:

Speed of wave, v = 4 m/s

Distance between two consecutive compressions is nothing but Wavelength of longitudinal wave, λ = 20 cm or 0.2 m

And for frequency of the wave motion,
f = v/ λ Hz
= 4/0.2 = 20 Hz
