The loss of water in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of a living plant is termed as transpiration. The water warmed by the sun turns into vapour and passes out through the aerial parts, mostly on the underside of the leaf surface. It has two main functions, it helps in cooling the plant and pumping water and minerals to the leaves for photosynthesis.
