Just before they collide, their velocities are perpendicular to each other as shown in figure.
Let their velocities be V1,V2. Given that their orbital radius(say r) is equal.
So, V1=V2=GMr.
The vectorial addition of the equal magnitude perpendicular vectors =20.5V1=20.5V2=2GMr.
Therefore, x=2
