The marked price of two articles A and B together is Rs. 6000. The sales tax on article A is 8% and on article B is 10%. If on selling both the articles, the total sales tax collected is Rs. 552, the marked price of article A and B are
₹ 2400,₹ 3600 respectively
Let the marked price of A be Rs. x and that of B be Rs. y.
According to question,
x+y= 6000 .....(1)
Sales tax on A is 8%
Sales tax on A= 8100×x
[ ∵ no discount is mentioned, S.P=M.P ]
Sales tax on B is 10%
Sales tax on B = 10100×y
Total tax collected by selling both the article is Rs. 552
So 8x100+10100y=552
8x+ 10y= 55200 .....(2)
Solving (1) and (2)
(x+y=6000)×8
8x+10y=55200
8x+8y=48000
8x+10y=55200
-2y=-7200
y=3600
from Eq. (1)
x+3600 =6000
x= 2400
So the M.P of article A and article B are Rs. 2400 and Rs. 3600 respectively.
