Question

The molar conductivities at infinite dilution of AgNO3 and NaCl are 116.0 and 110.0 Scm2mol1 respectively. The conductivity of AgCl in water is 8.42×106 Scm1 and of water used is 1.16×106 Scm1. The solubility of AgCl is 6.0×105mol/L. Find the molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaNO3 (in Scm1mol1) in the solution.

Solution

Conductivity due to AgCl without H2O is,
8.42×1061.16×106=7.26×106 Scm1

λoAgCl=κ×1000s
=7.26×106×10006.0×105=121 Scm2mol1

λoAgCl=λoAgNO3+λoNaClλoNaNO3
λoNaNO3=116+110121=105 Scm2mol1
