Question

The molar conductivities at infinite dilution of barium chloride, sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid are 280,860and426Scm2mol-1 respectively. The molar conductivity at infinite dilution of barium sulphate is _____ Scm2mol-1. (Round off to the Nearest Integer).

Solution

Step 1: Given data

Molar conductivities of dilution of barium chloride, sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid is

λMBaCl2=280,λM(HCl)=426andλMH2SO4=860

Step 2 : To find the molar conductivity of barium sulphate

From Kohlrausch's law

λmBaSO4=λmBa2++λmSO42-

λmBaSO4=λmBaCl2+λmH2SO4-2λm(HCl)

=280+860-2(426)

=288Scm2mol-1
