Water is the most abundant compound in the cytoplasm of the cell. It makes upto 80% of the total volume of the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm is a thick gel-like substance. Proteins, DNA, fat, sugars and other organic compounds and inorganic ions make up rest of the 20% of the cytoplasmic volume.
