Question

The perimeter of a triangle is 8 cm. If one of the side is 3 cm, what are the other two sides for maximum area of the triangle?

Open in App
Solution

Perimeter of triangle =x+y+38
x+y=5,y=5x
To find x,y so that area is maximum
Now
Area =s(sa)(sb)(sc)
dAdx=8(8x)(8y)(83)
To find maximum we diff and put dAdx=0
dAdx=ddx 8(8x)×5(85+x)
=18(8x)×5(3+x)
3x+8x=0
2x5
x=2.5
y=2.5
hence for maximum are x=y=2.5
