Solution

The correct option is C 4log 2.8
The pH of the solution obtained by mixing 100 ml of a solution of pH 3 with 400 ml of a solution of pH 4 is
(a) 100 ml of a solution of pH = 3
[H+]=10pH=103 M
(b) 400 ml of a solution of pH = 4
[H+]=10pH=104 M
When two solutions are mixed,

[H+]=100×103+400×104100+400=0.00028 M =2.8× 104M
pH=log[H+]=log (2.8× 104)=(log 2.8)(log 104)=4log 2.8
Hence, option (C) is the correct answer.
