Plants cannot grow in a soil if it is too acidic or too basic in nature. pH value for acids are between 0 to 6 and pH value for bases are between 8 to 14. If a soil is too acidic then it is treated with a base. If the soil is too basic then it is treated with an acid. Here the soil having pH 5 is acidic while other soil having pH 10, 9 and 14 are basic. Soil having pH 5 should be treated with a base.
