Solution

The correct option is B

48,980

Let A2001 be the population of the place in 2001.

Let A2003 be the population of the place in 2003. Then A2003 = 54,000

Let R be the rate(per annum) at which the population increased. Then R = 5%

Let n = 2 years
Population would be less in 2001 than 2003 in two years.
A2003=A2001(1+R100)n
54000=A2001(1+5100)254000=A2001(1+120)2
54000=A2001(2120)254000=A2001×2120×2120

A2001=54000×20×20×2021×21
A2001=48,980(approx)
