The printed price of a camera is Rs 1400. If the shopkeeper sold it for Rs 1316, what was the discount per cent?

Solution

Marked price of the camera = Rs 1400
Selling price of the camera = Rs 1316
Let the discount be x%.
Discount = Marked Price × p.c. discount
= 1400 × x%
= 14 x

Selling Price =Marked Price − Discount
⇒ Marked Price= Selling price + Discount
⇒ 1400 = 1316 + 14 x
⇒ 84 = 14x
⇒ x = 6
∴ The discount on the camera is 6%.
