The process of movement of molecules from the area of lower concentration to the area of higher concentration is called:
Active transport
Active transport is the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration from a region of lower concentration using energy. The concentration of minerals is usually higher within the plant roots than it is in the soil surrounding it. The plant cannot depend on diffusion as the minerals would diffuse outward of root cell and move into the soil. Hence, the cells need to use energy and perform active transport.
