Solution

The correct option is D both b and c
Transgenic animals are types of genetically modified organisms (GMO) which have their genome manipulated by certain techniques.

Recombinant DNA technology has led to the production of desired proteins at large scale for commercial utilities. Genes for many human proteins like growth hormone, clotting factors etc. have already been identified and cloned in the animals. The production of these proteins in yeast and bacteria is not always viable because microorganisms are not perfectly capable of making the post-translational modifications (like protein folding) necessary for protein functionality. Thus, the use of farm animals as bioreactors is a better choice to produce recombinant therapeutic proteins. The term bioreactor refers to a tank in which the recombinant cells or microorganisms are inoculated in suitable culture media, maintained at optimum conditions, so as to produce recombinant proteins. Since transgenic animals are successfully able to produce pharmaceutical products, they can also be called bioreactors. For example, transgenic cow with the gene α-lactalbumin can be called as a bioreactor as the gene gets expressed in the mammary cells to yield nutritionally enriched milk on a large scale.

Hybrids refer to the offspring which are produced by mating of individuals belonging to two different breeds, varieties or species.
