The proportion of nucleotides in a given acid are : adenine 18%, Guanine 30%, Cytosine42 % and Uracil 10 %. Name the nucleic acid and mention the number of strands in it.

  • It is a ribonucleic acid (RNA) because it contains uracil. Uracil is present only in the RNA.
  • As the nucleic acid is RNA, then it will be single-stranded. Unlike double-stranded DNA, RNA is a single-stranded molecule in many of its biological roles and consists of a much shorter chain of nucleotides.
  • Hence, the nucleic acid is RNA and it is single-stranded.
