Question

What is the radius of the first Bohr orbit of a Hydrogen atom?

Open in App
Solution

Bohr's orbit:

  1. According to the Bohr model, the electrons in atoms are in different energy orbits around the nucleus. Bohr referred to these orbits as having different energy levels (or shells).

Bohr's radius:

  1. The Hydrogen atom's initial Bohr orbit has a radius of 0.529A°.
  2. If the separation between the nuclei of two covalently bonded atoms is 100 pm, then the radius of each individual atom is 50 pm i.e. half of the distance between the atoms.
