Question

The rate of the reaction, 2A + B = products is given by the rate expression rate = k[A]1.5 [B]0.5. If A is 2 molar and B is 100 molar then the order of reaction will be

Solution

  • The order of any chemical reaction is the sum of the powers of the concentration terms in the rate law.
  • It is an experimentally determined quantity and does not depend on the concentrations of the reactants involved.
  • The order of the reaction depends on the power which are raised to the concentration term is rate law expression.

Rate = k[A]1.5[B]0.5

As per expression

Order = 1.5 + 0.5 = 2

The reaction will remain in second-order irrespective of the concentrations.
