Dear Student,
The Vedas are a large body of literary and religious texts that have originated during the Vedic period. Vedas in Sanskrit means Knowledge. The Vedas are classified into four different types, namely, the Rig Veda, the Sama Veda, the Yajur Veda and the Atharva Veda. The Rig Veda is considered as the earliest of the four Vedas and it is considered as the most important canonical text of the Hindu tradition. The Rig Veda consists of a large collection of hymns in the praise of gods which were chanted in various vedic rituals.
