Dear Student, Panthera tigris (Tiger) and Panthera leo (Lion). Both these species belongs to only family called Felidae (cat family). So depending upon their 'physical appearance' etc they have been classified in two different species. As they look different as tiger as yellow body with black strips whole lion has light yellow or cream colored body, thus placed in two separate species. But as they share common habitats and feeding styles, they were placed in same genric name - Panthera. Regards
