The side of the square is 5 cm. How many times does the area increases, if the side of the square is doubled?

Given, that the side of the square = 5 cm

Area of a square = Side×Side
Area of the square = 5 ×5 = 25 cm2

Now, according to the question,

New side = 2 × 5 = 10 cm
Area of new square = Side×Side = (10 ×10) cm2 = 100 cm2
[1 mark]

Area of new squareArea of old square=10025 = 4

Hence, the area of the new square increases by four times.
