Question

The six faces of a cube are painted in a manner that no two adjacent faces have the same colour. The three colours used in painting are red, blue and green. The cube is then cut into 36 smaller cubes in such a manner that 32 cubes are of one size and the rest of a bigger size and each of the bigger cubes has no red side. Answer the following question based on the given information.

The correct option is D 8
We paint a cube with same colour on opposite faces and then cut it into 36 smaller cubes.
So, for this first we cut the cube horizontally making three pieces where top and bottom pieces should be of same dimension and the middle one should be double of the two.
Then w cut the top and bottom pieces into 16 pieces/cubes each and middle one should be cut into four cubes of equal size.
So, total no. of cubes =16+16+4=36.
Now the top face contain 16 cubes and bottom face contain 16 cubes.
The middle cubes of upper and lower face are coloured on only one face =4+4=8.
Hence, option D is correct.
