Let the original number of students be 2a:3a;5a
If 40 students are increased in each class, the ratio changes to 4:5:7
2a+40:3a+40:5a+40=4:5:7
2a+404=3a+405=5a+407
Choosing the first two,
2a+404=3a+405
10a+200=12a+160
2a=40
a=20
Hence, the total number of students originally 2a+3a+5a=10a=10×20=200
